KUALA LUMPUR: Despite a Covid-19 outbreak in the Terengganu team, which also affected coach Tomislav Steinbruckner, the Turtles recorded an impressive 4-0 win over Sabah in the first leg of the FA Cup quarter-final in Gong Badak on Friday.
The Turtles were relentless in the first half, netting all four goals without any reply from the Rhinos.
Manuel Ott opened the scoring in the ninth minute, giving the home team an early lead.
Ishmahel Akinade doubled Terengganu's advantage in the 37th minute, and Marin Pilj added a third goal just five minutes later.
Akinade then secured his brace just before the half-time whistle, ensuring a commanding 4-0 lead for Terengganu, which they maintained until the final whistle.
This emphatic win provides them with a comfortable cushion for the return leg at Likas Stadium on July 6.
Meanwhile, at the City Stadium in Georgetown, Penang suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Kedah in the Northern Derby.
The visitors broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute with a well-executed goal by Hasbullah Abu Bakar.
Kedah and Penang will face off again in the return leg at Darul Aman Stadium on July 5.
