Terengganu, JDT secure first-leg wins in FA Cup semi-finals

KUALA LUMPUR: Terengganu and Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) hold the upper hand after winning their respective FA Cup semi-final first leg matches on Friday.

Terengganu edged Selangor 3-2 in Gong Badak, while defending champions JDT defeated Kedah 2-1 in Alor Setar.

Coach Tomislav Steinbruckner, who has been criticised for his tactics, turned things around as he orchestrated Terengganu's fifth consecutive home victory at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium.

The Turtles took the lead through Safawi Rashid in the 30th minute before Nurillo Tukhtasinov doubled their advantage five minutes later.

Selangor, however, fought back, scoring in the 39th minute through Alvin Fortes.

Noor Al Deen Mahmoud Ali Al Rawabdeh equalised for Selangor in the 48th minute.

Terengganu's Ismaheel Akinade turned hero, scoring their third in the 70th minute.

At the Darulaman Stadium, JDT secured victory over Kedah with a late winner.

Oscar Arribas opened the scoring for JDT in the 24th minute.

However, Habib Haroon equalised in the 87th minute for Kedah.

Romel Morales scored the winner for JDT in the ninth minute of stoppage time.

The return legs are scheduled for next month.
