KUALA LUMPUR: The Harimau Malaya squad is set benefit as Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) is expected to sign another heritage player - former Real Madrid goalkeeper Diego Altube.
It is understood that Altube has ties to Malaysia through his mother. It is believed that the Spain-born has already received a Malaysian passport.
JDT owner Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim previously disclosed that the club is set to strengthen their squad during the second transfer window which opens next month.
According to the Transfermarkt website, Altube is valued at €600,000 (RMRM3.062 million) which will make him the most expensive goalkeeper in the country if the move goes through.
It is understood that Altube is already in the country and is set to be announced as a JDT player soon.
If everything goes smoothly, the national squad could utilise his services as soon as the Pestabola Merdeka competition in September.
The 1.88 metre tall player was previously on the books at Real Madrid from 2020-2022 and went on to compete for Albacete, a La Liga 2 side, last year.
His experience could prove valuable to both JDT, who will compete in the Asian Champions League Elite this season, as well as the national team.
