Tierney joins Thai club in surprise move

KUALA LUMPUR: National Under-23 striker Fergus Tierney, in a surprise move, announced that he has joined Thai League 2 club Chonburi FC.

It remains unclear whether the 21-year-old Malaysian-Scottish player has joined Chonburi on loan from Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) or on permanent transfer.

Tierney attended an introduction ceremony by Chonburi yesterday.

Tierney joined JDT III at the age of 19, and was later promoted to their reserves team for the MFL Cup. Earlier this year, he represented Malaysia in the Under-23 Asian Cup in Doha.

Tierney is the second Malaysian to play in the Thai League this season, after Dion Cools who turns out for Buriram United.
