Selangor face triple challenge in space of 12 days

KUALA LUMPUR: Can Selangor sustain the demands of playing three tough matches in the next 12 days?

The Red Giants will kick off their challenging schedule against Sabah in a Super League match at Likas Stadium on Saturday.

They will then face Singapore in the Sultan of Selangor's Cup at Merdeka Stadium on August 17, followed by the FA Cup final against Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) on August 24 at the National Stadium, Bukit Jalil.

Selangor, who are second in the Super League with 16 points, defeated Kelantan Darul Naim 2-0 at MBPJ Stadium last week.

Acid-attack victim Faisal Halim made his season debut in that match.

Selangor coach Nidzam Jamil hopes his squad will remain injury-free during this period.

"We will play Sabah tomorrow, followed by Singapore in the Sultan of Selangor's Cup on Saturday and JDT in the FA Cup final," said Nidzam.

"Luckily, we will have a few days to rest and prepare for the FA Cup. I hope the players will avoid injuries and suspensions during this hectic period.

"Every match is crucial for us at Selangor. We approach each match with a mission to win. Even a draw is not good enough.

"For now, we will focus on getting three points in tomorrow's match," he added.
