Football icons return as Selangor face Singapore in Sultan of Selangor's Cup

KUALA LUMPUR: The 20,000-capacity Merdeka Stadium will host football legends on Saturday when Selangor veterans face their Singapore counterparts in the Sultan of Selangor's Cup.

Among those set to play for Selangor are Datuk Zainal Abidin Hassan, Datuk Dollah Salleh, Datuk Soh Chin Aun, Datuk Santokh Singh, K. Gunalan, Azman Adnan, P. Maniam, Shahril Arshad and Datuk K. Rajagobal.

Zainal hopes his team will prevail against Singapore on Saturday.

"I want the younger players to understand the history and passion behind this competition," said Zainal.

"Winning this match is about pride. In the past, either Selangor or Singapore would be champions in the Malaysia Cup."

He added, "I hope the new generation will appreciate the legacy of the Sultan of Selangor's Cup."

The Sultan of Selangor's Cup is making its return after a five-year hiatus, with the match being held at the newly upgraded Merdeka Stadium.
