KUCHING: Selangor claimed the first-ever Malaysia Games (Sukma) gold medal in women's football after defeating Sabah 3-1 in the final at the Sarawak Stadium today.
Sabah took the lead in the 11th minute through Azzlyeanieh Kinuli, but Selangor equalised just six minutes later with a goal from Nur Adrienna Zamzaihiri.
Three minutes into the second half, Nurin Umairah put Selangor ahead, and Ayuna Anjani Lamsin sealed the victory with a third goal five minutes later.
Selangor coach Osmera Omaro was satisfied with his team's performance in the final.
"Congratulations to the players. They showed great commitment. I hope this is the beginning of greater achievements.
"We only started training in February, giving opportunities to young players," said Osmera.
In addition to their success in women's football, Selangor also claimed the men's futsal title by defeating Sarawak 2-0 at the Samarahan Indoor Stadium in Kota Samarahan.
