KUALA LUMPUR: The FA of Malaysia (FAM) will have to be prepared to pay more than double what they paid former national coach Kim Pan Gon if they hope to bring in Park Hang Seo to lead the national squad.
According to Vietnamese portal, VN Ekspress, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) had paid Hang Seo US$50,000 (RM218,000) a month. Hang Seo spent five-and-a-half years coaching Vietnam.
FAM had paid Pan Gon less than US$20,000 (RM87,000). The latter is now coaching South Korean side Ulsan Hyundai.
"Coach Park ended his five-and-a-half years tenure with Vietnam after deciding not to renew his contract," said the portal last year.
"Park received a salary of US$50,000 a month as head coach."
It is understood that Hang Seo also received other perks including a private residence, car and flight tickets to South Korea.
Hang Seo's agent, Lee Dong Jun, was recently reported to be prepared to enter negotiations with FAM if the latter are genuinely interested in signing Hang Seo.
FAM president Datuk Hamidin Amin, during a press conference last week, admitted that Hang Seo is currently on the national body's radar.
He, however, said FAM are currently evaluating the performances of interim head coach Pau Marti Vicente and will only make a decision later.
