KUALA LUMPUR: KL City kept their hopes of advancing to the Asean Club Championship (ACC) semi-finals alive with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Indonesia's Borneo FC on Thursday.
In a tense encounter at the KLFA Stadium, both teams battled fiercely, but the first half ended goalless despite several chances.
The breakthrough came in the 77th minute when KL City finally found the back of the net.
A well-coordinated move, starting with Zhafri Yahya and Sean Giannelli, culminated in Brendan Gan slotting home the decisive winner.
The win moves the City Boys to second place in Group B with six points, trailing Vietnam's Cong An Hanoi only on goal difference.
KL City will continue their campaign against Singapore's Lion City Sailors at Jalan Besar Stadium on Jan 9, before facing Cong An Hanoi on Jan 23, and Thailand's Buriram United on Feb 3.
