KUALA LUMPUR: Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool fans have hit out at their club's former manager, Jürgen Klopp over his appointment as Red Bull's head of global football, with some labelling him a "sellout" and a "hypocrite".
Klopp who led both Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool to major titles, reportedly criticised clubs adopting a multi-club ownership model in 2017.
Such clubs include Red Bull which has teams in Germany and Austria, and the City Football Group which owns Manchester City and over 10 other clubs.
The UK's Daily Mail reported that Bundesliga fans dislike Red Bull-owned RB Leipzig due to its ownership model, which differs from that of other German clubs where fans have a significant say.
Some social media users who support Dortmund were quick to hit out at Klopp over his new job.
"Lost all respect for Klopp; Red Bull is not easy to support," wrote one user on X.
Another user said, "From the 'Normal One' to the can man. What a shame."
Liverpool fans on social media were also quick to express their unhappiness.
"Klopp is a hypocrite," said X user Merlin_0021 according to Goal.com.
Another user, Swedjournalist called Klopp a "sell-out."
Klopp's stint at Liverpool was highly successful, as he delivered the Champions League, Premier League title, Club World Cup, FA Cup, League Cup, Super Cup, and the Community Shield during his nine years in charge.
Before that, Klopp became the darling of Dortmund, delivering two Bundesliga titles, a German Cup, and a Champions League final appearance.
