KUALA LUMPUR: Newly appointed coach Katsuhito Kinoshi has vowed to rebuild Selangor into a formidable force in Malaysian football.
The Japan-born tactician, unveiled as the Selangor new coach on Saturday, is determined to instill tactical discipline in the team.
"I am honoured to join Selangor and eager to work with the talented players at the club," said Kinoshi in a statement.
"We will strive to build a solid Selangor side filled with spirit and determination to succeed. The focus is to make them tactically strong."
Kinoshi, 47, brings a wealth of experience to Selangor, having worked with renowned figures in the sport.
His most recent role was as assistant coach to Dragan Stankovic with the Serbian national team, who qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and this year's European Championship.
Previously, Kinoshi worked under former Netherlands international Giovanni van Bronckhorst during his tenure with Guangzhou City in China (2015–2021).
."We are thrilled to welcome Kinoshi to the Selangor family. His international experience and leadership will be crucial as we look to take the club forward.
"His tactical knowledge and vision align perfectly with our goals, and we are confident he will guide the team to success," read a statement from the club.
Selangor technical committee chairman Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar echoed this sentiment, expressing confidence in Kinoshi's ability to elevate the Red Giants' performance.
"His experience and leadership will play a key role in Selangor's hopes of doing better in competitions," said Shahril.
Kinoshi replaces Nidzam Jamil, who resigned on Oct 30.
