KUALA LUMPUR: Japanese coach Katsuhito Kinoshi did not have a winning debut with Selangor FC on Thursday.
He watched his team lose 2-1 to Thailand's Muangthong United in an AFC Champions League 2 match at the MBPJ Stadium.
But Kinoshi did have a rousing start when Quentin Cheng shot Selangor into the lead in the fifth minute.
But the Thai side revelled in the drizzle to pull level in the 53rd minute through a goal by Felicio Brown Forbes.
Muangthong then got the winner through Poramet Arjvirai in the 76th minute.
Muangthong have overtaken Selangor for second place in Group H with eight points from five games while Kinoshi's side are third with seven points.
Meanwhile Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors remain top of the group after a 4-0 win over Dynamic Herb Cebu of the Philippines. The Korean club have 12 points from four wins in five games.
