Ex-JDT coaches Solari, Mora set to lead Harimau Malaya overhaul

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) coaches Esteban Solari and Benjamin Mora are tipped to lead the soon-to-be-unveiled Harimau Malaya project.

Caretaker coach Pau Marti Vicente confirmed he and his staff would step down after the Asean Cup, which kicks off on Sunday.

The FA of Malaysia (FAM) is expected to announce changes to the national team setup on Dec 15.

Solari, an Argentine, and Mora, a Mexican, both enjoyed considerable success during their tenures with JDT, winning multiple titles.

Solari, who guided JDT to a clean sweep of the Super League, FA Cup, Malaysia Cup and Charity Shield last season, recently left Chilean side Everton de Viña.

Mora, who served JDT from 2015 to 2022, was instrumental in helping the club win eight Super League titles, seven Charity Shields, three Malaysia Cups and two FA Cups.

He recently parted ways with Canadian outfit York United.

It is understood Solari will take charge of the senior Harimau Malaya squad, while Mora will oversee the national youth teams alongside Nafuzi Zain, who recently stepped down as Kedah head coach.

Social media speculation has been rife, linking Solari and Mora to the Harimau Malaya revamp.

However, FAM president Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin urged fans to await an official announcement.

"FAM will make an official announcement soon, likely this month. We are finalising a few details before revealing the new structure," said Hamidin.

Former Everton and Australia star Tim Cahill is also rumoured to have a role in the project, alongside former national coach Tan Cheng Hoe.
