Sad final Malaysia match for emotional Vicente

KUALA LUMPUR: Pau Martí Vicente's tenure as Malaysia's national football team head coach ended on an emotional note after his side were eliminated form the Asean Cup following a 0-0 draw against Singapore at the National Stadium.

The Spaniard, who was Malaysia's assistant national coach for two years and five months as a head coach, reflected on his journey with pride and sadness.

"It's difficult to express, and of course, sad, for it to finish like this (Malaysia failed to reach the semi-finals).

"The team deserved more tonight, but I'm happy for the people's support and their respect for the players' efforts," said Vicente.

Though Malaysia bowed out early in the Asean Cup, Vicente remained optimistic about the team's future.

"This team can go further. My hope is that the legacy we've built continues to evolve and improve."

Vicente, who helped Malaysia qualify for the Asian Cup early this year, said: "I have found friends and people I'll keep forever. Working with Malaysian players has been a privilege. They have so much potential."

The Spaniard highlighted the importance of relationships over results. "Winning or losing, the most rewarding part is gaining the players' respect and helping them in their journey. That's what truly matters," said Vicente.

"Being in front of supporters is a special feeling. Today, with 31,000 fans, it felt rewarding despite the result," said Vicente.

"Malaysia will now be my favourite national team. I'll always support them and wish them the best," added Vicente.
