SSTMI crush BJSS 7-0 for 11th MJHL overall title

KUALA LUMPUR: Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School (SSTMI) Thunderbolts saved their best for the finale, a magnificent 7-0 thrashing of Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) Thunderbolts in the Malaysian Junior Hockey League (MJHL) in Bukit Jalil on Saturday. SSTMI stormed to a record 11th overall title.

In a league match earlier, SSTMI played BJSS, and won with a smaller margin, 4-1.

Last year double champions SSTMI showed their intent by attacking right from the first whistle despite the absence of key forwards Azimuddin Syakir Kamaruddin and Danish Haikal Saufi.

They were up 3-0 in the first 15 minutes as Safwan Salihe scored a hat-trick in the 42nd, 43rd and 54th minutes. Adam Ashraf Johari (second), Jebat Aiman Jeffri (10th), Nabil Irfan Yusof (15th) and Aqil Danial Mat Ruslee (52nd) contributed the other goals.

Nabil Irfan was named the Man of the Match in the final.

SSTMI coach Wan Roslan Wan Abdul Rahman said: "I told my boys to go all out in the final and win the overall title after we failed to retain the Division One league title.

"But I never expected them to outplay BJSS 7-0. I believe this is the biggest margin of victory in the MJHL overall final."

Meanwhile, SSTMI-PKS Uniten edged Mutiara MSSPP 1-0 in the final to retain the girls' overall title. The all important goal was scored by Nur Shafika Sharuddin off a penalty corner in the 22nd minute.
