KUALA LUMPUR: Newly crowned Malaysian Junior Hockey League (MJHL) Division One champions Johor HA-PHNJ routed Division Two runners-up Sabah 11-1 in the quarter-finals of the Overall Cup at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Tuesday.
Johor will now face former champions Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) Thunderbolts in the semi-finals on Thursday.
BJSS overcame last year's runners-up Pahang Hockey Academy Thunderbolts 4-2 in Bukit Jalil.
Johor team manager Hashim Yusof expressed surprise at his team's double-digit victory.
"It sends a clear message to other teams that we are serious contenders in the MJHL. My players are determined to claim a second title.
"We narrowly defeated BJSS 2-1 in the league match, so we anticipate another tough battle against them in the semi-finals," said Hashim.
Meanwhile, defending champions Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School (SSTMI) Thunderbolt dominated Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Hockey Academy with a 4-0 victory at Bukit Jalil.
SSTMI will face Division One league runners-up Anderson Thunderbolts, who defeated Melaka High School 6-1, in the semi-finals.
