Speedy Tigers edge Belgium B in third friendly in Antwerp

KUALA LUMPUR: As expected, Belgium's first team did not turn up for the friendly against the Speedy Tigers at Antwerp on Friday.

Instead, Malaysia took on Belgium B and won 3-2.

In earlier matches, Malaysia defeated Belgium B 3-2 but lost 4-2 to the same team.

Sarjit Singh's squad are on a playing tour in Europe, and fans expected the team to gauge their standard against Belgium's first team, the reigning Olympic champions and world No. 3.

On Friday, world No. 12 Malaysia took a 3-0 lead through Faizal Saari in the first and 16th minutes and Fitri Saari in the 29th minute.

Belgium B fought back and scored in the 44th and 57th minutes.

National coach Sarjit Singh said his team started well and took a 3-0 lead.

"I switched and rotated the players in the match.

"Overall, it was a good experience. I hope the team will do better against world champions Germany," said Sarjit.

The Speedy Tigers will take on Germany at Gladbach Hockey and Tennis Centre on Sunday.
