India win Asian Champions Trophy title

KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 5 India earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over world No. 23 China in the Asian Champions Trophy hockey final today.

The all-important goal was scored by defender Jugraj Singh in the 51st minute at the Moqi Training Base in Hulunbuir, Inner Mongolia, China.

India had also won the Asian Champions Trophy in 2011, 2016, 2018 and 2023.

Three-time champions Pakistan came back from a goal down to outplay world No. 14 South Korea 5-2 for third place.

Sufyan Khan (38th, 49th), Hannan Shahid (39th, 54th) and Rooman (45th) scored for world No. 16 Pakistan.

The Koreans replied through Lee Jung Jun (16th) and Yang Ji Hun (40th).

Ji Hun emerged as the top scorer in the tournament with nine goals.

In the six-nation tournament, Malaysia finished last.
