KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Tigress put up a fight, but it was not enough to stop defending champions India from winning 4-0 in the Asian Champions Trophy at the Rajgir Hockey Stadium in Bihar, India, today.
It was India's 19th win over Malaysia in 20 meetings since the World League Round Two in New Delhi in 2013.
World No. 9 India took the lead off a penalty corner converted by Sangita Kumari in the eighth minute.
India slammed in three more goals through Preeti Dubey (43rd), Udita (44th) and Sangita again in the 55th.
Malaysia had a chance to score but were let down due to poor finishing.
India had 11 penalty corners and converted three while world No. 23 Malaysia earned only one penalty corner which they failed to convert.
Coach Nasihin Nubli said he was satisfied with his team's performance against India, who are the favourites and had played in the FIH Pro League.
"We played well technically in defence and we also had our chances to score. We need to recover well to face China," he said.
Meanwhile, Paris Olympic silver medallists China sent a warning to the other teams by thrashing Thailand 15-0.
Results: Japan 2 S. Korea 2, China 15 Thailand 0, India 4 Malaysia 0.
