Malaysians stay calm against brawny Britain

KUALA LUMPUR: Young Tigers beat brawny Britain 1-0 in a hockey friendly at Taman Daya Stadium in Johor Baru today.

The match was played in three quarters, and the only goal was scored by Nabil Irfan Yusof off a penalty corner in the third quarter.

On Monday, coach I. Vickneswaran's boys edged New Zealand 2-1 in a friendly.

The matches were part of their preparations for the Under-21 Sultan of Johor Cup which begins on Saturday.

Vickneswaran said Britain played a very physical game and this irked his players.

"But my boys stayed calm and they played to instruction."

Malaysia will play two quarters against India in another friendly tomorrow.
