Veteran Juliani back to lead Malaysia's ACT charge

KUALA LUMPUR: Juliani Din is already 39, but she is still fit to lead the national women's hockey team in her sixth Asian Champions Trophy (ACT) in Bihar, India, from Nov 11-20.

The other teams in the fray are defending champions India, Paris Olympics silver medallists, Japan, South Korea and Thailand.

Sabahan Juliani, who has represented the national team since 2005, is the most decorated women's hockey player in the country with 204 caps.

The army sergeant said she shoulders a heavy responsibility as half of the national team consist of juniors

"We are rebuilding the national team for the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya."

"The ACT will be a good tournament to see where we stand among the top six teams in Asia.

"My target is to help my team create an upset."

World No. 23 Malaysia held world No.14 South Korea to a 1-1 draw in the ACT in Ranchi, India, last year. Malaysia should beat Thailand to finish top five in ACT.

Mizuno was announced yesterday as the official attire for the Malaysian senior and junior women's teams and also for Malaysian indoor men and women's teams.

Malaysian Hockey Confederation president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal said the Mizuno sponsorship for the four national teams is RM300,000 a year.

"We hope the new attire will boost the national teams to perform better in upcoming competitions," said Subahan.
