KUALA LUMPUR: HockAcademy president Datuk Seri Megat D. Shahriman Zaharudin will challenge incumbent I Vikneswaran for the Kuala Lumpur Hockey Association (KLHA) top post in the elections on Saturday.
Shahriman, who previously served as KLHA president from 2019 to 2022, was banned for 18 months by the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) in 2020 for breaching the Malaysian Hockey League regulations.
The ban was lifted by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) judicial commission in 2023.
In a statement, Shahriman said he is ready to bring positive changes to KLHA if elected.
"We have several plans to focus on, with one of the most important being the development of new players, referees, and technical staff," said Shahriman, who recently retained his Malaysia Paralympic Council (MPC) hot seat.
"Infrastructure will also be a priority, alongside maintaining strong community relationships.
"In addition to social programmes, we will conduct activities with affiliate members.
"Most importantly, we aim to enhance the school leagues in Kuala Lumpur across all age groups and organise a league and social tournaments for veterans."
Meanwhile, Fariz Mustafa, Joherman Amir and Datuk Rosal Azimin Ahmad are vying for the deputy president's post.
The vice-president race has drawn attention, with Ajitpal Singh, Razalee Yahya, and Wong Khee Hon facing seven other nominees.
For the women's vice-president position, Zaidatul Syukriyah Abd Malik will face off against Hebzibah Sudin.
The secretary's position will be contested by Sukhji Singh and Vignesvaran Suppiah, while the treasurer's role will see a race between Zubir Abdul Razak and Datuk Hasry Sham Chasmen.
