Terengganu stun Tenaga to claim MHL Charity Shield

KUALA LUMPUR: Terengganu exacted revenge over last season's treble champions Tenaga Nasional with a 2-1 victory in the Malaysia Hockey League (MHL) Charity Shield at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil today.

Tenaga, boasting nine national players, took the lead in the 27th minute through a penalty stroke converted by South Korean star Jang Jong Hyun.

However, Terengganu equalised just three minutes later when national forward Faizal Saari capitalised on their sixth penalty corner of the match.

Former international Tengku Ahmad Tajuddin then secured the lead for Terengganu in the 42nd minute, finishing off a penalty corner set piece.

Terengganu had an opportunity to extend their advantage in the 56th minute with a penalty stroke, but South Korean Lee Nam Yong's low flick was brilliantly saved by Tenaga goalkeeper Hairi Abdul Rahman.

Terengganu goalkeeper Hafizuddin Othman was named the man of the match for his standout performance.

In the women's Charity Shield match, Blue Warriors edged Malaysian University 1-0.

National forward Hanis Nadia Onn scored the decisive goal in the 17th minute to secure the win.
