KUALA LUMPUR: It is all systems go for Malaysian trio Jazeman Jaafar, Weiron Tan and Nabil Jeffri for Le Mans.
They will be competing, for the first time, in the prestigious 24-Hours of Le Mans in France this weekend.
The Jackie Chan DC Racing X Jota trio have arrived in Le Mans and had a taste of the festive atmosphere that accompanies the world’s most competitive endurance race on track.
Taking turns at the wheel of an Oreca 07 LMP2 car, Jazeman, Weiron and Nabil will aim for a podium finish.
Endurance racing, though lacking in popularity in Malaysia, enjoys a strong following in Europe. Many of the top manufacturers use Le Mans as a proving ground with race rules allowing more room for innovation compared to other championships.
"There is a lot happening this week before the race starts on Saturday. We had scrutineering in the town centre yesterday and a huge crowd have already turned up," said Weiron.
"Our final preparations have been going smoothly, I'm in a good state of mind going into race week.
"There is still so much to learn and a lot of experience to gain. I'm feeling positive about it. We'll know where we are at in terms of pace after the free practice.”
The team will get down to business on Wednesday when free practice starts following qualifying on Thursday.
The Malaysian trio have already made a strong start to the World Endurance Championships, of which Le Mans is a part of, coming in third in class at the season-opening round in Belgium last month.
