KUALA LUMPUR: Elly Idzlianizar Elias, 40, the racer who once represented Malaysia at Asian and international levels, died yesterday (Sept 11).
The sad news was shared by Elly's younger sibling, Elly Idzliaikmal Elias, on her social media.
"Farewell, my brother #16. May you find peace in the eternal realm, my beloved brother. May you be placed in paradise. Wait for us there, brother. We will meet you there," shared Elly Idzliaikmal.
Having won several championships with various manufacturers including Yamaha, Honda, and Suzuki, the late Elly was also selected to participate in the nation's 'wildcard' rider search program to compete in the 2009 Malaysian Grand Prix.
Thanks to his talent, Elly was chosen to join the program along with Zulfahmi Khairuddin in the 125cc class with the Air Asia team.
Known as a highly talented rider, Elly first made a name for himself in the local Cub Prix racing scene.
After hanging up his racing gloves and boots, Elly ventured into hosting and became a commentator for Cub Prix.
He also wrote his autobiography entitled Evolusi Elly 'From Illegal Racer to Champion', published in 2010.
Elly's body was sent to Alor Setar Hospital for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
