KUALA LUMPUR: National futsal coach Chiew Chun Yong has reminded his players not to take Taiwan lightly in Saturday’s AFC Championship Group A match in Taipei.
Malaysia, who edged Vietnam 2-1 in Thursday’s opening match, will qualify for the quarter-finals for the first time in the tournament if they beat Taiwan.
“I do not want the players to think about the quarter-finals yet. They need to focus on Taiwan who are strong in set-pieces.
“They need to play better than the way they did against Vietnam. However, I am confident that they can perform better tomorrow,” said Chun Yong.
Malaysia are ranked 26 rungs higher than Taiwan at World No 53.
“Taiwan hired a technical director several months ago to prepare their team for this tournament and they have improved a lot,” Chun Yong added.
