Pandelela pulls out of women's 10m individual platform event

JAKARTA: National diving queen and medal hopeful Pandelela Rinong has pulled out from the women’s 10m individual platform final event which is scheduled to take place later today (Thursday) at the Asian Games here in Jakarta.

This latest development was confirmed by national diving team manager Andy Low after the 2016 Rio Olympic Games silver medallist complained of discomfort when competing during qualifying at the Gelora Bung Karno Aquatics Centre here earlier today (Thursday).

“She will not be taking part in the final because she does not want to take any unnecessary risks. She has not fully recovered from her injury and this is why the decision to withdraw from the final had to be made,” he said here earlier today (Thursday).

During qualifying, Pandelela ended competition in sixth place after amassing only 277.40 points.

Earlier, the 2015 National Female Athlete of The Year also pulled out from partnering veteran diver Leong Mun Yee in the 10m Synchro Platform and her place was taken by Nur Dhabitah Sabri.

For the record, Pandelela picked up a back injury while training last Saturday. --BERNAMA
