A twist of irony for Sivasangari

THIS time, S. Sivasangari (pic) experienced the opposite of what she did to her opponent two days ago in the Squash on Fire Open in Washington.

On Thursday, the Malaysian women's No 1 had rallied from two games down to beat Canada's eighth seed Danielle Letourneau 5-11, 9-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-7 in the second round.

But yesterday, Sivasangari surrendered a two-game lead against Egyptian former world 3 Nour El Tayeb in the quarter-finals.

World No 26 Sivasangari lost her concentration and allowed Nour to come away with a 9-11, 8-11, 11-6, 11-9, 11-4 win.

"It definitely felt like a missed opportunity for me in losing despite being two games up," admitted Sivasangari who reached the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Cup earlier this month.

"I knew it was always going to be tough against Nour but I felt that I played really well at the start to get into a two game lead.

"But after that, I lost my accuracy and my confidence just slipped away towards the end."

Meanwhile, national No 3 Rachel Arnold was edged 11-9, 12-10, 11-9 by American world No 24 Sabrina Sobhy.

Rachel, as well as Aifa Azman and men's players Ng Eain Yow and Ivan Yuen, will next turn their attention to the Windy City Open in Chicago from Feb 23-March 2.
