Negri, KPT-Uniten in tight battle for WMHL crown

KUALA LUMPUR: Negri Sembilan hold a 14-goal advantage going into the second round of the women's Malaysia Hockey League (WMHL) after they hammered Sarawak 7-0 at the Pandamaran Stadium in Klang today.

Negri and KPT-Uniten Thunderbolts have 13 points each after the first round, but the former lead the WMHL on goal difference. KPT-Uniten edged Sabah 3-2 at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil today.

Negri and KPT-Uniten played to a 1-1 draw in the first round, and it looks like the title will be decided in the return match at the Seremban II pitch on March 7.

In today's match, Negri scored through Nuraini Rashid (sixth, 12th, 59th), Fatin Shafika Sukri (26th), Nuramirah Shakirah Zulkifli (43rd, 50th), Nurul Azlin Zulkeflee (51st).

"We only drew one match against Uniten, and it looks like the league title will be decided when we host them in the return match in Seremban.

"Although we have scored many goals against other teams, it will not make a difference if we do not execute a sound plan in the return match against KPT-Uniten," said Negri coach K. Rajan.
