National gymnast Farah Ann Abdul Hadi is set to retire from the sport.
It is learnt that she has been absent from training for the last two weeks.
The national gymnasts are currently preparing for the Vietnam Sea Games on May 12-23.
A source said the seven-time Sea Games champion intends to retire as she is growing frustrated with her injury issues.
Following the working committee meeting between the National Sports Council and the Malaysian Gymnastics Federation (MGF) recently, it is said that the 27-year-old's position in the national team was discussed.
It is understood that after returning from the Tokyo Olympics last July, Farah Ann did not train immediately and waited until December to get back to the mats.
Farah Ann has yet to make an official announcement, and the MGF is awaiting confirmation.
"She was still undecided in December. At that time, she was determined to recover from an injury. However, during the working committee meeting, her plans to retire was discussed.
"She wants to make a public announcement," said a source.
MGF honorary secretary Afrita Ariany Nasril said: "We are still waiting for the black and white from Farah Ann.
"As for now, she is still on our list for the Sea Games," said Afrita after the Sea Games selection meeting at Wisma OCM on Tuesday.
MGF have set a four-gold target for the Sea Games.
"Of course with Farah Ann's presence, our chances will be brighter in the team event at the Sea Games.
"However, even without her, we have a chance to win in other individual events and achieve our target.
"Whether Farah Ann with us or not, we will still compete at the Sea Games," Afrita added.
She finished 68th out of 85 gymnasts in the women's all-around event at the Tokyo Olympics.
