KUALA LUMPUR: Former paralympic champion Ziyad Zolkefli took the able-bodied shot put bronze medal at the Hanoi Sea Games today.
Ziyad's 17.20 metre saw him finishing behind silver medallist Thailand's Jakkapat Noisri (17.32m) and the Philippines' William Morrison III Edward, who took gold on 18.14m.
Ziyad, who won silver on a lesser throw of 17.03m at the 2019 Manila Games, was nonetheless pleased with bronze effort.
"This is my third appearance in the Sea Games, and I am grateful and proud to win a bronze for the country," said the 32-year-old.
"As a para-athlete, I am also proud of the fact that I am able to compete against able-bodied athletes."
Meanwhile, Andre Anura Anuar finished fifth in the men's long jump with a leap of 7.24m.
The gold went to Vietnam's Trong Nguyen Tien, who won on 7.80m, while the Philippines' Janry Ubas Borinaga (7.73m) and Indonesia's Sapwaturrahman (7.61m) settled for silver and bronze.
The women's high jump saw Ngu Jia Xin coming in fifth with a leap of 1.65m.
Vietnam's Dhiem Pham Thi emerged victorious with a 1.78m effort. Singapore's Michelle Sng (1.75m) and Vietnam's Giang Pham Quynh (1.70m) claimed the silver and bronze.
