Speedy Tigers look for momentum

Malaysia will show no mercy when the world No 11 take on minnows Bangladesh in their final Asia Cup Group B match at GBK Stadium in Jakarta today.

After scoring 12 goals and conceding four in their opening matches, coach Arul Selvaraj wants his players to score early goals against the world No 31 side.

A good result will offer the Speedy Tigers the momentum when they play three other teams in the Super-Four round.

Malaysia had defeated Oman 7-0 in their opening match and stubborn South Korea 5-4 on Tuesday.

Against Bangladesh, coached by former Malaysian international K. Gobinathan, Arul said the plan is to score early goals to seal the match and top the group.

"We have already started planning for the Super-Four stage, but the immediate focus is on Bangladesh," said Arul.

"The plan is to score early goals and avoid injuries and cards.

"We have already qualified for the next stage, so it is pointless to chase for a double-digit win tomorrow (today)."

The Super-Four round will see four teams playing each other.

The top two will play for the title, while the bottom two for the bronze medal.

The Asia Cup offers three World Cup spots.

If the young Indian team, who are third in Group A with one point, qualify for the Super-Four stage, the remaining three will be assured World Cup berths.

India will host the World Cup next year.

India's fate in Group A hinges on the final match between Pakistan and Japan today.

Japan have qualified for the next stage, while Pakistan need just a point to make the next round.
