KUALA LUMPUR: For the first time since her Commonwealth Games debut, Pandelela Rinong will be returning home without a medal.
Having fallen short in both the 10m platform individual and 10m platform synchro events earlier, today's 10m mixed synchro was her last chance to get a medal.
Alas, it did not happen. The combination of Pandelela-Jellson Jabillin could only finish fourth at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre.
Pandelela-Jellson scored a total of 302.82. England's Noah Williams-Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix won the gold (333.06). Another English duo, Kyle Kothari-Lois Toulson took the silver (318.54) while Australia's Cassiel Rousseau-Emily Boyd took the bronze (309.60).
It is certainly a disappointing finish for Pandelela who had arrived in Birmingham on a high after a two-medal showing at the World Championships in Budapest last month.
While Pandelela ended up empty-handed, it was certainly a memorable outing for Nur Dhabitah Sabri.
The 23-year-old bagged her third medal in four events today, combining with Syafiq Puteh to take bronze in the 3m mixed synchro. Syafiq-Dhabitah finished with 299.04 points behind Scotland's James Heatly-Grace Reid (306.00) and Australia's Li Shixin-Maddison Keeney (304.02).
Dhabitah, who also took silver in the 3m springboard individual and synchro events, said: "I did not expect a medal in this event and it's a bonus medal for me.
"I definitely did well with Syafiq as all our dives were executed without mistakes."
Team manager Leong Mun Yee said it was a good outing for the team and Dhabitah in particular. She also backed Pandelela to bounce back strongly.
"It's a good result for the team as we achieved our target in delivering medals.
"As for Pandelela, I am sure she will be most disappointed with herself but I am sure she will bounce back stronger."
