Black Widow to battle SSTMI-UniTen for women's JHL crown

KUALA LUMPUR: Petaling Jaya City Council (PJCC) Black Widow will play SSTMI-UniTen in the women's Junior Hockey League (WJHL) final at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Sunday.

In today's semi-finals, Black Widow edged PKS-UniTen 1-0 courtesy of Nur Idrina Asnida' penalty corner goal in the 35th minute.

SSTMI-Uniten, meanwhile, were dominant in their 4-1 semi-final win over KLSS Wipers.

Khairunnisa Ayuni was the toast of SSTMI-UniTen with a brace in the ninth and 52nd minutes. Dian Nursyakira Najwa (21st) and Nur Shafika Ahmad (60th) scored the other goals.

Halimatul Halijah Zulkifli scored a consolation for the Wipers in the 30th minute.

National women's coach Nasihin Nubli said: "When I started watching the first week of matches, there was a sinking feeling in me as many teams as well as established juniors were not ready.

"I had the opinion that this is going to be a boring women's JHL, but as the tournament progressed, I was proven wrong."

In the men's semi-finals, Datuk Bentara Luar upset SSTMI Thunderbolts 1-0. They will play Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) Thunderbolts in the final.

Haziq Haiqal Daus was the toast of Datuk Bentara with the winner in the 41st minute.

In the other semi-final, BJSS Thunderbolts edged Pahang Thunderbolts 3-2.

BJSS goalscorers were Amirul Haniff Mamat (eighth, 30th) and Zulhanif Sahran (60th) while Hazim Mohd Ahir (fifth) and Shamir Rizmi Shamsul (37th) scored for Pahang Thunderbolts.
