KUALA LUMPUR: Kirandeep Kaur can now dream of becoming a doctor.
The national women's hockey player received an offer to do medicine at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) yesterday.
Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) deputy president Professor S. Shamala was the first to congratulate 19-year-old Kirandeep.
"She is the first national woman hockey player to receive an offer to do medicine from a local university. This is a proud moment for Kirandeep and the MHC."
Kirandeep scored 9As in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations last year and obtained a CGPA of 3.88 in her matriculation.
Shamala hopes to see more hockey players following in Kirandeep's footsteps.
"All her hard work, in training and national team duties as well as studies, have paid off well. We wish her all the best in her studies," said Shamala.
Kuala Lumpur-born Kirandeep, a midfielder-cum-forward, was only 15 years old when she earned her first cap with the national women's team.
She made her international debut at the World Series in Singapore in 2018, where she played in all six matches and scored a goal. She was also in the team for the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games.
The former student of SMK Bukit Bandaraya in Bangsar was also part of the national junior team that played in the women's Junior World Cup in South Africa in January.
At the recent Malaysia Games, she helped FT to take third place.
