KUALA LUMPUR: National cueists Lim Kok Leong and Chooi Yew Wah reached the last 16 of the World Amateur Snooker Championship in Antalya, Turkey, on Wednesday.
National champion Kok Leong whipped Israel's Eden Sharav 4-0 (69-10, 73-46, 67-26, 83-0) and faces India's S. Shrikrishna Suryanarayan for a quarter-final spot later today.
A win will see Kok Leong equal his best quarter-final final achievement in Doha, Qatar in 2017.
Earlier, Kok Leong won all four matches to emerge Group A champion.
Yew Wah, meanwhile, made it to the knockout stage as Group W runner-up after claiming two wins against one loss.
Yew Wah edged Poland's Mateusz Baranowski 4-2 (11-53, 65-18, 35-65, 65-37, 116-0, 102-4) in the last 48 before notching his next win against UAE'S Khalid Kamali 4-2 (80-17, 70-1, 6-70, 79-32, 35-55, 69-12).
Yew Wah faces Latvia's Rodion Judin next.
Another Malaysian representative, Moh Keen Hoo negotiated through Group S by coming in runner-up, but was eliminated in the last 48.
The former Asian junior champion went down 4-1 (68-18, 60-28, 42-59, 61-39, 4-70, 18-109, 50-62) to Belgium's Sybren Sokolowski.
For the record, Malaysia have never won a world amateur title in snooker.
