MWF to introduce systematic training programme

PHNOM PENH: The Malaysian Weightlifting Federation (MWF) will provide a more systematic training programme for athletes who did well at the Sea Games here.

MWF president Datuk Ayub Rahmat said athletes such as Nur Syazwani Radzi, who won bronze in the women's 64kg event, will be given the necessary attention to improve her potential.

"At the national level, we have specific programmes for our athletes. However, right after the Sea Games, we will make Syazwani an offer to be part of a more systematic programme.

"I think that is the best for her. At the same time, we will continue to scout for talents from the states at our tournaments.

"We have many potential athletes coming through our backup ranks, especially female athletes, who I believe will deliver gold in the future Sea Games editions.

The team achieved their target of one medal through Nur Syazwani's bronze medal.

Nur Syazwani lifted 80kg in the snatch before setting a clean and jerk record (104kg) for a 184kg total.

Her score, however, was not enough to beat Indonesia's Tsabitha Alfiah Ramadani, who lifted 204kg to win gold. Vietnam's Thi Thu Uyen Dinh (194kg) bagged the silver.

Overall, Nur Syazwani, 20, produced a commendable performance that deserves credit.
