KUALA LUMPUR: Wushu exponent Mandy Cebelle Chen delivered Malaysia's first medal at the Chengdu World University Games after clinching the women's Taijiquan bronze medal at the Chengbei Gymnasium on Saturday. Mandy amassed 9.633 points for a podium finish. China's Chen Xiaoli picked up the gold with 9.753 points, while Japan's Rise Shoji (9.680) took silver.
The Selangor-born athlete will try to better her achievement in the Taijijian event on Sunday.National wushu coach Koo Chee Zhong said: "Mandy proved she is a strong competitor in the Taijiquan event.
"She stands a good chance of another medal tomorrow."Meanwhile, Ang Qi Yue finished seventh in the men's Changquan with 9.523 points. The gold medal went to China's Jin Zhedian, who earned 9.723 points.
Indonesia's Marvelo Edgar Xaxier (9.716) and Taiwan's Chen Yue Xi (9.706) won silver and bronze, respectively.In the men's Nanquan, Calvin Lee settled for a seventh with 9.333 points. China's Cao Maoyan won the gold with 9.770 points.
