HANGZHOU: Malaysia won a second silver medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games on Tuesday, courtesy of eSports. In the Arena of Valor final at the Hangzhou Esport Centre, the Malaysian squad, comprising captain Lai Chai Chein, Nicholas Ng, Yong Zhang Quan, Ong Jun Yang, Eng Jun How and Chong Han Hui, went down fighting 2-0 to China.
The host nation, who started as overwhelming favourites, were represented by Sun Linwei, Luo Siyuan, Chi Xiaoming, Xu Bicheng, Jiang Tao, and Lin Heng.In the earlier bronze medal playoff, Thailand defeated Vietnam 2-0.
Regardless of the outcome, it is crucial to note that this is Malaysia's maiden Asian Games medal in eSports.At the previous edition in Jakarta-Palembang five years ago, eSports made its debut as a demonstration sport.
