Clement says he's on a learning curve after finishing fifth in Hangzhou

HANGZHOU: Former Sea Games gold medallist Clement Ting admitted he is still on a learning curve towards becoming a top wushu exponent.

On Wednesday, the 25-year-old Sarawakian could only manage a fifth place finish in the men's combined daoshu-gunshu discipline at the Hangzhou Asian Games.

Clement scored 19.436 points to finish behind fourth-placed Wang Chen Ming (14.452) of Taiwan.

China continued their dominance, bagging the gold again, this time through Chang Zhizhao, who accumulated 19.626 points.

Singapore's Jowen Lim (14.476) came in second, followed by Indonesia's Naro Seraf Siregar (14.466), who settled for bronze.

Clement, who won the changquan gold at the Hanoi Sea Games, said: "I liked my performance. The score is out of my control, but I did my part. I am very excited and happy to be here."

On his debut at the Asiad, Clement thanked his seniors for guiding and supporting him.

"It's my first time at the Asian Games. My other teammates have a lot more experience.

"I am learning from them, and I'm happy to be able to do so," added Clement.

In the women's combined jianshu-qiangshu final, Malaysia's Pang Pui Yee finished seventh with 19.276 points.

Lai Xiao Xiao secured another gold for the host country with 19.600 points, followed by Iran's Kiani Zahra (19.436) and Vietnam's Duong Thuy Vi (19.426).
