Eain Yow must start afresh to beat the best in Egypt

KUALA LUMPUR: Ng Eain Yow's career is on an upward trajectory after securing his career-high world ranking of No. 16 following his remarkable victory at the German Open on Sunday.

However, his newfound confidence will face a significant test at the El Gouna International (April 19-27) and the World Championships (May 9-17), both in Egypt.

National coach Ajaz Azmat said Eain Yow need to be mentally and physically prepared for the challenges in both competitions.

"He needs to put aside his German Open success and approach these upcoming competitions with a fresh mindset, considering he'll be facing higher-ranked opponents," said Ajaz.

The 26-year-old will open his campaign against Mexico's Cesar Salazar in the first round in El Gouna.

Ong Beng Hee holds the record as the most successful player in the men's competition, achieving a ranking of No. 7 in December 2001, while Azlan Iskandar reached No. 10 in March 2011.
