KUALA LUMPUR: Asian squash champion Ng Eain Yow overcame an irked Bernat Jaume of Spain in the quarter-finals of the US$64,000 Malaysia Cup at the Curve Mall in Petaling Jaya today (Nov 15).
World No. 45 Jaume was unhappy with the referee's decision in his 11-7, 11-8, 11-8 loss to Eain Yow.
"Jaume is my friend on the World Tour and I didn't want him to lose on the conduct points, and I told him to calm down," said Eain Yow who will meet India's world No. 58 Abhay Singh in the last four.
Second seed Eain Yow said he was satisfied with his performance today compared to his quarter-final match against American Shahjahan Khan.
There will be three Malaysian challengers in the Malaysia Cup semi-finals.
World No. 20 Rachel Arnold came back from a set down to beat fifth seed Katie Malliff of England 3-11, 11-2, 13-11, 13-11 in 54 minutes. World No. 9 and top seed S. Sivasangari beat compatriot Aifa Azman 11-9, 11-3. 11-6.
The 28-year-old Rachel, who won the China Open title last week, said she had a slow start.
"But when I started to increase the pace, I managed to get my game going. I think before this, I used to lose in crucial points, but I managed to convert the points during the crucial stages."
Asked about her semi-final against Egypt's three-time world junior champion Amina Orfi, Rachel said:
"I played her a few times and the score was pretty close but I lost to her because of fitness.
"Hopefully this time I feel more confident. She likes to play a fast paced game and I will try to slow her down and try to control the game and rallies," said Rachel.
