KUALA LUMPUR: United States-based Sanjay Jeeva almost created an upset in the first round of the QSF 3 Open in Doha, Qatar today.
World No. 74 Sanjay took a two-game lead against No. 62 Ibrahim Elkabbani but couldn't sustain as the Malaysian lost 12-14, 8-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-7 in 66 minutes.
World No. 64 Addeen Idrakie was also shown the exit in the first round.
World No. 81 Yassin Elshafei of Egypt defeated the Malaysian 11-4, 5-11, 11-6, 11-5 in 37 minutes.
Elshafei will face Malaysia's world No. 15 Ng Eain Yow in the second round tomorrow.
