KUALA LUMPUR: Sanjay Jeeva soared to 66th in the latest men's world squash rankings released yesterday.
This is based on the new national No. 2's results in PSA tournaments.
Veteran Addeen Idrakie dropped one rung to 67th.
Asian champion Ng Eain Yow is ranked world No. 13.
Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia coaching director, Major (rtd) S. Maniam, said he is impressed by Sanjay's progress.
"Last week Sanjay did well in the Nash Open in Ontario, Canada, by upsetting two players to reach the semi-finals. He beat world No. 58 Ryunosuke Tsukue of Japan in the second round and world No. 50 David Baillargeon of Canada in the quarter-finals."
Sanjay lost to world No. 40 Mohamed Zakaria of Egypt in the semi-finals. He will compete in the Charlottesville Open in Virginia, United States, which starts today.
In the women's category, Asian champion S. Sivasangari maintained her world No. 9 ranking.
