Azeem forced out by false start at Malaysian Open

KUANTAN: Malaysia's fastest man, Azeem Fahmi, was too impatient at the Malaysian Open today in Kuantan.

He literally couldn't wait to start in the 200m and was disqualified for a false start in the semi-finals at the Darul Makmur Stadium.

Azeem said: "Whatever happened was my mistake, I was impatient (to start the race). No 'rezeki' (good fortune) in the 200m event.

"It's something unexpected and beyond my control... could have been due to my immediate reaction."

Australia's Jack Boulton won the semi-finals with 21.42, followed by Jonathan Nyepa (21.74). Former Sea Games champion Khairul Hafiz Jantan finished fifth with 22.31.

Azeem, 20, will have the chance to redeem himself in tomorrow's 100m, in which he holds the national record of 10.09.
