'Ikan bilis' Rouxin tells herself to be brave against Olympic sharks

KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Rouxin may be a small fish in a big pond in Paris, but she has been telling herself to be brave.

The 18-year-old Johorean will compete in the Olympics later this month after getting a 100m breaststroke wild card.

Does the debutant have butterflies in her stomach at the biggest show on Earth?

"I do feel a bit of pressure, but I try not to think about it too much by listening to music and doing yoga," said Rouxin at the National Aquatics Centre yesterday.

Going as an ikan bilis against the Olympic sharks, Rouxin said she has been telling herself to be "confident and brave to fight at the Paris Games.

"I'm confident I can break my record (personal best of 1:11.02s for the 100m breaststroke) in Paris," said Rouxin.

At the first National Short Course Championships recently, Rouxin also smashed the 200m and 400m individual medley records.

"I'm ecstatic to represent Malaysia at the Olympics at this young age. It's going to be really memorable," she said.
