KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Red Giants created history after becoming the first Malaysian side to win a major international Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) title after emerging victorious at the Mid Season Cup (MSC) in Riyadh tonight.
Red Giants held their nerve to upset current world champions Falcons AP.Bren of the Philippines 4-3 in a nail biting best-of-seven game final which went to the wire.
Red Giants pocketed a mouth watering US$1 million (RM4.66 million) for their win while AP.Bren took home US$500,000 (RM2.33 million) for their efforts.
Red Giants jungler Haqqullah Ahmad Shahrul Zaman, better known by his nickname Sekysss, was named most valuable player in the final.
The 18-year-old said it was a dream come true.
"I feel like I am dreaming right now because this is my first international tournament and we are the champions," said Sekysss during the post-match interview.
"We proved to all the netizens, who said Malaysia would (lose) 4-0 to AP.Bren, wrong.
"Alhamdulillah, thank you to all the Malaysian fans who supported us."
Red Giants had yesterday defeated NIP Flash (Singapore) 3-0 in the semi-finals while AP.Bren defeated Liquid Echo (Netherlands) 3-1 to advance to the final.
MSC, which is part of the Esports World Cup line-up, offered a lucrative US$3 million (RM14.1 million) prize purse.
