KUALA LUMPUR: The National Sports Institute (NSI) plans to provide adequate medical support for the Malaysian contingent at the Paris Olympics.
NSI Chief Executive Officer Ahmad Faedzal Ramli said 20 staff, including medical officers and sports science officers, will provide support services to all 26 Malaysian athletes at the Paris Games.
NSI will operate a clinic at Team Malaysia House in the Olympics sports village, which will be open from morning till night. The services provided will include sports medicine, rehabilitation, nutritional and psychological advice.
Faedzal added that the NSI will extend their services to independent shuttler Lee Zii Jia although he is not part of the Road To Gold programme.
"There's no problem if Zii Jia wants to use our services. However, it can only be used during a certain period because our physiotherapists are not allowed to go to the competition court because they have to follow the rules set by the hosts."
Twenty-six Malaysian athletes will particiapate in the Paris Olympics. They are from 10 sports: badminton, track and road cycling, diving, archery, athletics, golf, weightlifting, shooting, sailing, and swimming.
