Johnathan gunning for Olympic final in Paris

SEPANG: Johnathan Wong hopes that improving his season's best score will propel him into the final of the men's 10m air pistol at the Paris Olympics from July 26-Aug 11.

Johnathan, making his second Olympic appearance after Rio 2016, recorded his season best mark at the Denmark Open earlier this year.

"579 is my season best and that is the mark I need to better at the Paris Olympics.

"I feel that my preparation this time around is better than the last time I went to the Olympics (Rio 2016).

"I cannot predict the future as results at the Olympics tend to be hard to anticipate, I will go in and try to do my best.

"Hopefully, I can get into the final and maybe fight for the gold," said the 31-year-old at Kuala Lumpur International Airport before leaving for Paris today.

The Melaka-born's last competition before Paris was the Munich World Cup in June where his 578 points placed him in 21st position in a highly competitive field.

But it was not good enough to qualify him for the final though his total was only 10 points away from India's Sarabjot Singh who qualified first, and went on to win gold in the final.

At Rio 2016, Johnathan finished 28th in the 10m air pistol and 37th in the 50m free pistol event.
