KUALA LUMPUR: Today is the first day of the Paris Olympic Games. Timesport takes a look at the Malaysians in action at the greatest show on Earth.
Malaysian sports fans can expect a smashing time too, as our men's, women's, and mixed doubles badminton players will take to the courts.
First up will be the mixed doubles pair of Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei, who will face Singapore's husband-wife team of Terry Hee and Jessica Tan.
Malaysia's Tang Jie and Ee Wei have beaten the Singapore pair before, at the Swiss Open first round last March. They won 21-12, 19-21, 21-15.
After Tang Jie and Ee Wei's match, it will be followed by Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in the men's doubles, and and then Pearly Tan and M.. Thinaah in the women's doubles.
Former world champions Aaron and Wooi Yik will begin their Group A campaign against England's Ben Lane and Sean Vendy. World No. 4 Aaron and Wooi Yik hold a 4-1 head-to-head record against world No. 18 Lane and Vendy.
However, the English pair had stunned the Malaysian duo in their last encounter, during the semi-finals of the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
In the women's doubles, Pearly and Thinaah face a very formidable challenge in their Group A opening match. They are up against China's world No. 1 Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan.
This match is crucial to the Malaysian pair's hopes of reaching the quarter-finals. Only the top two pairs from each group will advance to the quarter-finals.
The other Malaysians from other sports in action today, that is 4:30pm Malaysian time, will be swimmer Khiew Hoe Yean in the men's 400m freestyle heats and shooter Johnathan Wong in the men's 10m air pistol qualifying rounds.
Several medal events will also take place today. They include the 10m air rifle mixed team, women's synchronised 3m springboard, and both the men's and women's road cycling individual time trials.
Judo enthusiasts can look forward to the men's under 60kg and women's under 48kg finals, while skateboarding will feature the men's street final.
